1 – Cells are the basic unit of life. All cells have a nucleus which contains DNA, and all nuclei contain chromosomes.
2 – Cells are the smallest unit of living things and make up all parts of the human body. The human body has about 37 trillion cells.
3 – There are two types of blood cells – red blood cells carry oxygen to our tissues and white blood cells fight infection or disease.
4 – Red blood cell production is controlled by the hormone erythropoietin (EPO) which stimulates bone marrow to produce more red blood cells when necessary.
5 – Blood also carries nutrients from one place in the body to another as well as removes waste products from those areas – this process is called circulation.
