1 – C.S. Lewis was born in Belfast, Ireland on November 29th 1898.

2 – His father died of cancer when he was just 10 years old. He had a brother and sister named Warren and Maureen who both died at an early age.

3 – He wrote over 100 books and is best known for The Chronicles of Narnia series. His most famous book is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

4 – He attended Oxford University where he studied medieval literature.

5 – In 1925, he became a professor of English Literature at Magdalen College in Oxford.

6 – In 1931, he married Joy Gresham with whom they shared 17 years together before she passed away from bone cancer.

7 – After her death, Lewis wrote the book A Grief Observed which is about his experience as a widower.

8 – The Chronicles of Narnia series are some of his best-known works that have been adapted into movies for children around the world to enjoy.

9 – C S Lewis died on November 22nd 1963 from complications following surgery to remove part of his stomach due to gastric ulcers caused by stress and smoking cigarettes too much over the course of many years.

11 – Lewis was a close friend to fellow author JRR Tolkien and they both served as officers in the British Home Guard during World War II.

19 – He is buried at Holy Trinity Church in Oxfordshire with his wife and brother Warnie.

24 – After his death, many of his unpublished works were released including theological writings and translations of medieval texts into modern English.

25 – He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953 “for his creative writings which are outstanding both in quality and quantity.”
