Facts about Zombies
1 – The word “zombie” is derived from the Haitian Creole zonbi, which means “a dead person brought back to life by witchcraft.” Zombies are said to be people who died and came back to life.
2 – Zombies originated from Haitian folklore that also believed in soucouyants:, evil witches that shed their skin by night and would eat human flesh and blood.
Stories of zombies have been documented in Haiti and other countries of the Caribbean since 1804 when a slave rebellion took place on Saint Domingue (now known as Haiti).
3 – In Haiti, zombies were believed to be created by evil sorcerers who had the power to turn someone into a zombie by using black magic and voodoo spells.
4 – People in Haiti would try to kill their loved ones before they became zombified because it was believed that killing them while they were still alive would release their souls back into heaven and prevent them from becoming undead slaves of the sorcerer.
5 – There is no scientific evidence that zombies exist. FYI: Zombies are mythical creatures and a zombie apocalypse has never happened in history.
