1 – Elephants are the only animals that can’t jump.

2 – The elephant’s trunk is like a nose, an ear, and a hand all in one.

3 -An elephant’s skin is made up of tiny hairs called “tactile bristles” which help it feel its surroundings.

4 – The largest living land animal on Earth today is the African Bush Elephant – they grow to be 12 feet tall at their shoulder and weigh between 7-10 tons.

5 – There are two types of elephants – African elephants and Asian elephants.

6 – African elephants have much larger ears than Asian ones because they need them for cooling purposes.

7 – Elephants have the longest gestation period of any mammal- 22 months.

8 – The trunk is a combination of nose and upper lip that can act as a hand to pick up small objects.

9 – They use their trunks for smelling, drinking, breathing, eating, bathing and communicating.

10 -Female elephants live in herds led by one or more older females called matriarchs while males usually live solitary lives outside the herd but will join them during mating season.

22 – An elephant’s skin is tough enough to protect it from thorns and brambles when it walks through forests.

24 – A baby elephant calf is usually born in the morning hours after a gestation period of about 22 months.

25 – African elephants have two finger-like structures at the end of their trunks called ‘fingers’ or ‘tusks’ which help them pick up food, water, leaves and dirt from the ground.

Asian elephants have one fingered trunk because they don’t need to do as much work due to living in hotter climates with more vegetation.

They also have smaller ears than African elephants because they don’t need such good hearing for detecting predators like lions from far away distances.

Elephants can live up to 70 years in captivity and 100 years in the wild.

Elephant milk has twice the amount of fat than cow milk, making it one of nature’s most perfect foods for humans too!
